A natural travertine bridge near Payson was the perfect destination for blowing off work on a Monday and heading into the outdoors. After camping on the Mogollon Rim, we drove half an hour to Tonto Natural Bridge State Park. The Pine Creek Trail descends into the creek bed, which requires lots of boulder hopping to reach the bridge. The creek bed was lush and green in the middle of what is otherwise a dry area of junipers and Ponderosa pines. The hike was shady and cool and only half a mile each way.
